Sen. Grooms' Resolution for Aviation Industry Approved

Urges establishment of a study committee to consider creation of an aviation-related industrial zone

STATEHOUSE (Feb 13, 2012) – State Sen. Ron Grooms (R-Jeffersonville) today introduced a resolution urging the Indiana Legislative Council to establish an interim study committee to consider creation of an industrial zone for aviation-related industry.

For more than three decades, the Clark County Airport had a long-standing role in the field of aviation. Grooms said by creating a new industrial zone, new opportunities for business and job growth could generate employment opportunities for residents of Clark County.

Establishing an aviation industry zone can help stimulate local business opportunities, cultivating a pro-growth environment for job creation,” Grooms said. “This resolution is a critical step in ensuring every Hoosier has a fighting chance at finding a job.

Grooms said possible incentives to entice business in this zone may also include tax credits and regulatory relief programs.

Sen. Grooms Pro Bono Legislation Passes Senate

STATEHOUSE (Jan. 31, 2012) — State Sen. Ron Grooms’ (R-Jeffersonville) legislation crafting a funding mechanism to provide legal services for those who cannot afford them took another critical step toward Senate passage today.

Senate Bill 235 was approved on third reading by a vote of 50-0 and is now ready for further consideration in the House of Representatives.

This legislation will support those who do not have the resources to look for adequate legal representation,” Grooms said.

Grooms legislation reestablishes fees to provide pro bono legal services to be issued by the Indiana Bar Foundation as the entity. Designated by the Indiana Supreme Court, the initiative will organize and administer the Interest to the Lawyers Trust Accounts program.

Every Hoosier has the right to legal services, regardless of what type of income they have,” Grooms said. “I am encouraged by the support this bill has received and hope these legal demands will be met to contribute to the needs of those people.”

Grooms said the funding mechanism is expected to generate more each year for lawyers and legal service providers who work with those not able to afford them.
